About me... David Morrison aka DJ 'So Fly' Morrison

From the Ring to the Classroom — and Now to You

My journey into nutrition didn’t start in a classroom. It started in a boxing gym.

For more than 20 years, I lived the life of a combat athlete — boxing, training, cutting weight, recovering from injuries, and pushing my body through the demands of MMA. I learned early that nutrition wasn’t just fuel; it was survival. It determined how hard I could train, how fast I could recover, and whether I stepped into competition feeling strong or depleted. But like many fighters, I didn’t always have access to evidence‑based guidance. I relied on trial, error, and grit.

Those years taught me something important: Athletes deserve better. They deserve science, support, and someone who understands the reality of their sport.

That realization changed the direction of my life.

The Turning Point

As I worked with other fighters and young athletes, they began asking me questions about nutrition — questions I couldn’t answer responsibly without the right education. I didn’t want to give advice that could harm someone. I didn’t want to repeat the mistakes I had made. So I made a decision: I would go back to school and learn the science behind the performance.

I became a first‑generation college student and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, followed by a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. It wasn’t easy — balancing school, training, work, and life never is — but it was worth it. Those programs gave me the scientific foundation I needed to understand metabolism, recovery, weight management, performance fueling, and clinical nutrition at a deeper level.

I didn’t just learn how to help athletes perform better. I learned how to help people live healthier, stronger lives.

Where Science Meets Experience

Fuel Tank Nutrition is the result of everything I’ve lived and everything I’ve learned.

I combine evidence‑based nutrition with real athletic experience to create personalized plans that actually work. I know what it feels like to cut weight before a fight. I know what it feels like to train through fatigue. I know what it feels like to push your body to its limits — and I know how nutrition can either support you or break you.

My approach is simple:

  • Start with a comprehensive nutritional assessment

  • Build a plan based on science, data, and your physiology

  • Adapt it to your sport, lifestyle, and goals

  • Support you with coaching that understands the athlete mindset

Whether you’re a fighter, a youth athlete, an endurance competitor, or someone simply trying to improve their health, I meet you where you are — and help you get where you want to go.

Fuel Tank Fueling: Giving Back to the Community

One of the most meaningful parts of my work is Fuel Tank Fueling, a program dedicated to youth and underserved communities. Growing up, I didn’t always have access to nutrition education. Many young athletes don’t. Many families don’t. So I created a program that teaches kids how to fuel their bodies, build confidence, and develop lifelong habits through hands‑on learning and real food.

This work reflects my core belief: Nutrition should be accessible. Performance should be safe. Health should be equitable.

Why I Do This

I do this because I’ve lived it. I do this because I’ve studied it. I do this because athletes deserve someone in their corner who understands both the science and the struggle.

Fuel Tank Nutrition is more than a business — it’s my way of giving back to the sport that shaped me, the communities that raised me, and the athletes who trust me with their goals.

If you’re ready to fuel smarter, recover stronger, and perform at your best, I’m here to help you get there.
